Colorado sales tax rates by ZIP code
Colorado has home-rule cities that administer their own tax, which makes it one of the most fragmented states in the country. Expect many jurisdictions per ZIP.
Counts and the combined rate range are drawn from our October 2026 file. Rates change monthly.
What you actually have to charge in Colorado
Local jurisdictions add their own rate on top, so the rate you must actually charge is almost never the state rate.

What's in the Colorado rate file
Colorado data ships inside every edition — we do not sell single-state files. Each row carries the ZIP code, county and city name, the rate at each jurisdiction level, the combined total, and whether shipping is taxable. The higher editions add district reporting codes, FIPS codes, effective dates and sales tax holiday windows.

How local tax works in Colorado. Hybrid. Counties, special districts and statutory cities are state-collected under state rules, while home-rule municipalities self-collect with their own taxability rules, licences and returns — though most now accept single-point filing through the state's SUTS portal.
Worth knowing. The hardest destination-sourcing state in the country. Self-collecting home-rule cities can tax items the state exempts and may require their own local licence. The state GIS lookup carries statutory hold-harmless protection; DR 1002 lists home-rule cities and contacts.
Questions
Colorado sales tax questions
What is the sales tax rate in Colorado?
The statewide base rate is 2.9%. Local jurisdictions add their own rate on top, so the rate you must actually charge is almost never the state rate.
Is shipping taxable in Colorado?
Generally no. In Colorado a delivery charge is not taxable, and combining it with handling does not make it taxable.
That distinction catches people out, which is why our file carries both flags — TAX_SHIPPING_ALONE and TAX_SHIPPING_AND_HANDLING_TOGETHER — on every row, for the specific jurisdiction. Your system doesn't have to encode the rule.
How many sales tax jurisdictions are there in Colorado?
We track 381 bodies that actually levy a sales tax in Colorado — 52 counties, 255 cities and 74 special districts — across 637 CO ZIP codes. We count a county, city or district only where it charges something, not merely because it appears in the file.
Where can I download Colorado sales tax rates?
