Pricing
Ten editions, one simple decision
Every edition is an annual subscription and includes twelve monthly updates, all delivery options and support. Pick your detail level, then pick how you want ZIP codes handled.
Unique gives you exactly one row per ZIP code — simplest to import, but a ZIP split across two jurisdictions is represented by a single rate. Non-unique gives you a row for every jurisdiction combination inside a ZIP, so nothing is averaged away.

Do you actually need tax automation?
Your system already calculates tax. It just needs the right numbers.
If you have a working ERP, cart or billing platform, a full compliance suite is an expensive way to solve a data problem. Here's the honest comparison.
A tax automation platform
- Priced per transaction, so your bill grows when your business does
- Automatic tier upgrades and renewal increases you didn't plan for
- An outbound API call on every quote, order and invoice
- Useless for batch jobs, offline order entry and air-gapped systems
- An implementation project before you calculate a single rate
- Published price: usually none — you have to talk to sales
A monthly rate file from us
- One flat annual price, published on this page. Triple your order volume and it doesn't move.
- No API dependency. The rates live in your database, so a network blip can't stop you invoicing.
- Works everywhere — batch runs, call-centre quoting, offline entry, historical audit reconstruction.
- Load it in an afternoon. Tab-delimited text, a documented schema, no integration project.
- You keep every file. Reconstruct what a rate was in any past month for an audit.
- Free sample first. Check the schema against your system before you spend anything.
Being straight with you: if you need nexus monitoring, exemption certificate management or someone to file your returns, you need a compliance platform and we'll happily say so. We sell rate data. If that's the gap, we're the cheapest honest way to close it.
How the file gets built
Researched by people, not scraped
Rate data is only worth anything if it's right. Here's exactly what happens between a state announcing a change and it landing in your file.
Our accuracy promise
Find a rate error in a file we've shipped and we'll get it corrected immediately once confirmed.
-
We watch the source, not aggregators
Our researchers pull rate changes directly from state departments of revenue throughout the month, and call individual municipalities when a notice is ambiguous.
-
ZIP codes come straight from USPS
Every month we refresh boundaries and new ZIP codes from USPS data, so a ZIP that came into service in June is in your July file.
-
Two people check every change
Automation flags the changes; a person confirms each one against the source notice before it ships. That's why we can put a guarantee on it.
-
You get it before you need it
Your first file is a download link, available the moment you order. Every monthly update after that is emailed at least two business days before the first of the month — by FTP for Zip+4 Diamond, which is too large to email.
Customers
What people switch to us for
★★★★★"Our previous provider had missing ZIP codes and incorrect tax rates, and getting a response took days. Since switching, the file just arrives and it's right."
★★★★★"I have used other tax rates files in the past that were not this accurate. Thank you for a quality product."
Questions
Frequently asked questions
When do I get each month's file?
At least two business days before the first of the month, so your rates are loaded before the month they apply to. We have shipped on time every month since 2017.
What format is the file in?
A tab-delimited text file with a documented, stable schema — it imports into any database, ERP or shopping cart without transformation. Every edition has a published file-format document and a free sample you can test against your system before buying.
How is it delivered?
Your first file comes as a download link as soon as you order. After that each monthly update is emailed to you. The one exception is the Zip+4 Diamond Edition — at over two million records it is too large to email, so it is delivered by FTP.
What's the difference between unique and non-unique ZIP codes?
A unique-ZIP file has exactly one row per ZIP code — simplest to import, but where a single ZIP spans two jurisdictions with different rates, one rate has to represent it. A non-unique file gives you a row for each jurisdiction combination within the ZIP, so nothing is averaged away. If you're calculating tax to charge customers, non-unique is usually the safer choice; if you're populating a lookup that only accepts one row per ZIP, use unique.
Are Canadian rates included?
Yes, at no extra charge. Every subscription includes a separate
Canada.txt file with GST, PST and HST rates by province.
Do you provide product-specific tax rates?
No. We provide general sales and use tax rates for tangible personal property. If you sell products with category-specific rules — groceries, apparel, digital goods, medical — you'll need product taxability rules on top of our rates, and we'll tell you that up front rather than after you've bought.
How do I get the first file after I order?
Immediately. You get a download link for the current month's file as soon as your order completes, then each monthly update on the schedule above.
Can I get historical files for an audit?
Yes. If you no longer have your copy of an earlier month's file, ask us and we will send it. Because the file sits in your own system rather than behind an API, you can reconstruct exactly what rate applied in any past month — which is why auditors tend to prefer flat files.
